Dili, October 18, 2025 – The Instituto Superior Dom Bosco (ISDB) held an academic seminar on Friday at ISDB’s campus in Comoro, under the theme: “The Role and Privileges of Parliament in a Democratic State.”

The event featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Armindo Moniz Amaral, Ph.D., who emphasized the critical role of parliament as a pillar of democracy. In his address, Dr. Amaral shed light on the fundamental responsibilities of parliamentarians and clarified that the privileges they enjoy are not personal advantages, but rather tools intended to support the common good. He stressed that in a democratic state, authority must not be seen as a privilege, but as a responsibility—a call to serve the people with justice and integrity.

The seminar brought together over 400 participants from various groups, movements, universities, and institutions, including a large number from ISDB. Among the attendees were also key ISDB officials, including the Rector Magnificus, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, and the Student Affairs Prefect. The academic gathering aimed to deepen public understanding of democratic institutions and foster a sense of civic responsibility among future leaders and educators.
