Seminar on Eviction Sheds Light on Legal and Moral Perspectives
13 September 2025 | Dili, Timor-Leste
The Instituto Superior Dom Bosco hosted a high-impact seminar today, 13 September 2025, addressing the sensitive and timely issue of eviction from both legal and moral standpoints. The event was an initiative of the student body, held with the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Culture.
The seminar, which ran from 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM, brought together an audience of approximately 800 students and young people, who engaged actively throughout the program. Attendees were also awarded certificates of participation as a recognition of their involvement.
Dr. Sérgio, a respected jurist, provided an in-depth analysis of eviction within the framework of Timorese law, highlighting both the rights of property owners and the protections afforded to vulnerable populations. His presentation explored existing legal mechanisms, recent reforms, and challenges in implementation.
On the other hand, Dr. Plácido offered a compelling moral and ethical reflection on the implications of eviction, emphasizing human dignity, social justice, and the responsibility of society to safeguard the well-being of all its members.
Following a coffee break, participants took part in a lively question-and-answer session, posing thoughtful and critical questions to both speakers. This interaction reflected the high level of interest and concern among youth regarding housing rights and social equity.
The seminar was widely appreciated for its balanced and informative approach, and organizers have hinted at the possibility of further discussions and workshops on related social issues in the near future.
